BHS Plant Sale! (28-2)

Are you looking to begin or add to your garden? A plant sale is being held at Blacksburg High School from April 28th to May 2nd. A number of various flowers are being sold 8 A. to 4 P. on the aforementioned dates, giving those interested a plethora of options. Throughout the semester, Agriculture students have been working hard to preserve and care for said plants in order to keep them looking ideal and ready for the sale!

Below, you can find a little bit of information about some of the plants being offered, that way you can have an idea of what to look out for at the plant sale!

Blazing Ring of Fire - Bidens 

These vibrant orange and yellow flowers grow to be around 12-18 inches. They require moderate care and last for one growing season. However, they are perennials, and will regrow every year. These flowers are a great option because they attract pollinators and are extremely low maintenance!

Spicy Electric White - Bidens 

These flowers are found in stunning shades of white and bright yellow. Similar to Blazing Ring of Fire Bidens, they require minimal care and add variety to your garden!

Cat’s Tail

Cat's Tail has a unique and tropical look, which is perfect for the late spring and summer season. Cats’ Tails are adaptable, but do especially well in warm environments. These flowers may also attract birds, specifically hummingbirds!

Garvinea Memories - Gerbera Daisy

These flowers offer a variety of warm colors, which are perfect for a summer garden! They bloom from spring to fall and are decently low maintenance flowers.

Patio Pinnacles - Gerbera Daisy 

Patio Pinnacles are vibrant shades of pink, yellow, and orange, making for a unique addition to your garden. They are also perfect for small spaces, as they usually have very compact growing environments. They are also heat tolerant, unlike many Gerberas.

La Bella y Medio Fun Pink Eye Dahlia & Megaboom Passion Fruit - Dahlia 

La Bella y Medio Fun Pink Eye Dahlias are large flowers with pink petals containing a dark center. Megaboom Passion Fruit Dahlias are found in vibrant shades of yellow, purple, and red. They are large and eye-catching, making a perfect edition to your home!

Ivy League Burgundy - Ivy Geranium 

These flowers are a rich burgundy color and can be used in hanging baskets and window boxes. They are also perfect for hot and sunny weather,requiring minimal maintenance; mostly regular watering and the occasional deadheading, (cutting dead flower heads for further growth).

String of Turtles

String of Turtles have small round leaves, resembling the shell of a turtle, hence their name. They make the perfect hanging plant and aren’t too difficult to maintain!

Pickle Plant

Pickle Plants have barrel- shaped leaves and produce magenta flowers in summer making them very seasonally appropriate. Like many succulent plants, they are easy to take care of and may be a good choice if you don't have much experience with caring for plants!

While that doesn’t even cover half of the plants being offered at the BHS plant sale, hopefully it gives you an idea of some plants you may want to consider. Be sure to attend the sale some day between April 28th and May 2nd so that you can start or continue your garden!
